3D laser scanning, an effective technique to speedily capture digital images.
With 3D scanning you can digitise real-world objects
- collect data
- process data
- use the data
- Digital replication of almost any object or building, no matter how complex the shape
- Leverage the power of scans to create powerful reality capture files
- Integrate point clouds into software to improve accuracy of modelling and reduce time away from the office
- Create BIM models from reality capture data
- No special technical skills required

In June last year, Statistics SA reported that SA has officially entered a technical recession. With our beautiful country recording a tepid 0.3% economic growth rate last year, as well as the recent global ratings downgrades, it is harder and harder to reach those elusive growth targets.
So if you are not a Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell or a Nikola Tesla, the best option to grow your business, is to diversify.
Seagoing vessels are intricate and thus refurbishment or assembly is difficult due to the lack of existing CAD models. The long range and high accuracy of laser scanners has resulted in scanning technology being developed for use in naval architecture, marine and shipbuilding industries.
FARO 3D scanning can assist by collecting data which shows the position and alignment of frames, hulls, piping, propulsion systems, valves etc. The 3 dimensional data is then processed into usable CAD models, which can be analysed and used for design or retro-fitting, where required. Reverse engineering increases efficiency and reduces time required for construction or repair.
3D AND BEYOND
FARO has spent more than 30 years bringing excellence into the marketplace. Through our wide array of products, and the innovations that have come with them, the 3D imaging landscape has been changed forever.
FARO’s portfolio of portable coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) can be used for both contact and non-contact measurement.
