National Skills Competition

The National Skills Competition returns on 1 and 2 October 2026, bringing together talented learners from across South Africa to put their technical and vocational skills to the test.

Modena Design Centres is proud to once again support the Sasol Foundation and Kagiso Trust as a training sponsor, supporting the development of practical digital design skills and greater exposure to industry-standard Autodesk technology.

Modena’s involvement

For several years, Modena has supported the National Skills Competition through training, facilities, technical expertise and sponsored training prizes.

Our involvement focuses on Computer-Aided Design, CAD, and Engineering Graphics and Design, EGD, helping learners and educators develop skills that have direct relevance to further study and careers in engineering, design, construction and manufacturing.

As an Autodesk Learning Partner and Autodesk Authorised Training Centre, Modena is committed to helping strengthen the connection between classroom learning and the digital skills used in industry.

National Skills Competition 2026

1–2 October 2026

The 2026 competition will once again give learners the opportunity to demonstrate their technical ability in a competitive, industry-focused environment.

Modena will support the competition through its Training division, continuing our partnership with the Sasol Foundation and Kagiso Trust in developing South Africa’s future technical talent.

Building skills beyond the competition

The value of the National Skills Competition extends beyond the two competition days. Exposure to professional software, accredited training environments and industry practices gives learners a clearer understanding of where their technical skills can take them.

For educators, the initiative also provides greater exposure to the digital tools increasingly used across the industries their learners may enter.

National Skills Competition 2025

Modena continued its support, sponsoring and hosting the CAD and EGD components of the National Skills Competition.

The National Skills Competition is one of South Africa’s most important platforms for showcasing and strengthening technical and vocational talent. Led by the Sasol Foundation in partnership with Kagiso Trust, the Department of Basic Education, and the Department of Higher Education and Training, the competition brings together learners, teachers, and TVET students from across all nine provinces to compete in real-world, industry-based challenges across 13 trade categories.

Modena is proud to sponsor and host the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD) divisions of the competition. These categories highlight the power of digital design tools to prepare young South Africans for careers in engineering, construction, and manufacturing.

By testing skills in environments that mirror industry practice, the competition helps bridge the gap between education and the workplace. Participants not only demonstrate their technical ability but also build confidence, problem-solving skills and resilience, all essential for thriving in today’s rapidly changing world.
